Lake District Ski Club - Safeguarding Policy Statement
The Lake District Ski Club (LDSC) will ensure a duty of care to all members by adopting and implementing Snowsport England’s Safeguarding policies: Snow Safe Children and Young People, and Snow Safe Adults and any future versions of these policies. Both policies can be found on LDSC’s website under membership and on the Snowsport England website.
LDSC is committed to ensuring all children and adults participating in snow sports have a safe, positive, and fun experience.
We will do this by:
-Recognising all children and adults participating and volunteering regardless of age, gender, ability or disability, ethnicity, religion, beliefs, sexual orientation, or socio-economic background have the right to participate and be protected from harm. We are a club for everyone, and everyone will be treated equally.
-Ensuring that all individuals working and volunteering in the club with children, and adults provide a safe, positive, and fun snow sports experience.
-Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility. We will ensure everyone working at the club or for the club understands this and is aware of the “Snow Safe policy children and young people” and “Snow Safe policy adults” and adheres to them.
-Appointing a Club Welfare Officer and ensuring they receive the mandatory training for CWOs, so they have the necessary skills to undertake their role effectively.
-Ensuring all people working at the club are recruited in accordance with the Snow Safe policies and relevant legislation.
-Ensuring all people working at the club with children and/or adults are provided with the necessary training and information on good practice and code of conduct.
-Ensuring the name and contact details of the CWO are promoted to children and parents and are displayed in the club and on the website.
-Ensuring children, parents, club officials, and members are aware that the CWO should be the first point of contact for any concerns.
-Ensuring the CWO’s details are available as the main point of contact for the Lead Welfare Officer at SSE and external agencies regarding safeguarding.
-Ensuring the correct and comprehensive reporting procedures exist for raising and managing child safeguarding concerns.
-Ensuring everyone connected with the club (including parents, children, volunteers, and visitors) has the opportunity to voice any concerns to the CWO.
-Ensuring all suspicions, allegations and concerns are taken seriously and dealt with swiftly and appropriately.
-Ensuring information regarding any safeguarding concerns is kept confidential and shared only on a “need to know” basis with CWO, SSE Lead Welfare Officer and any appropriate Safeguarding Hub member or Local Authority Designated Officer etc.
- Ensuring all workers/volunteers at the club recognise it is their responsibility to report any concerns they have but it is not their responsibility to determine if abuse has occurred.
